The First Day
Jen and I decided to make our road trip to Denver in one day. We had calculated that the trip would take about 16 hours, and since we were taking the dogs and cats with us in the car, we thought it best to drive straight through. Unfortunately, the weather decided to not be so cooperative and we ended up making a 20 hour drive, non-stop, with the last three hours taking is through a white out near blizzard in the Vail pass. Welcome to Colorado!
We arrived at a little after 2 am on Thursday morning (over a week ago), with the last part of our drive into Denver being through sleet (rain and snow for the unindoctrinated). When we arrived at our new home, we set up our air mattress in the living room, in front of the fireplace of course, with the expectation that we would wake up to clear blue skies.
Good Morning! Apparently we were a little off-base in our assumption about the weather. When we woke up I heard something that I haven't heard in a long time, "it snowing!" This is the view from our back door that morning.
It looks cold out there - can you believe Jen is making the boys and I head out in the backyard? Donning the only snow shovel I can find in the garage, as well as my California lining-free coat (complete with sweatshirt underneath), the lads and I prepare to head out into uncharted, frozen, waters.
The boys get their first sniff of the white stuff.I meant snow.
Zeus and Apollo waded their way out into the snow. They were still not sure about this stuff, so we decided to head in. OK, they loved it, but I was cold!
Back to the warmth of the living room fireplace! Check out that cozy air mattress.
Jen and I traveled with the bare essentials - that includes the LCD! Here is a view of our kitchen, somehow I don't think the TV will get to stay there.
Here is my soon-to-be office.
Our living room with the formal dining room in the back.
The master bedroom, with a view of the backyard and the Rockies!
The upstairs hallway heading out of the master bedroom.
Guest room number one.
Guest room numbers two and three.
So Jen sends me to get something out of the car, and then is cruel enough to head upstairs and snap some pictures of me out in cold.
Next time I am going to remember to get my own shoes when heading out in the snow, and not try to swing it with Jen's sandles!
After braving the snow in Jen's clogs, and the fact that the snow let up some, the boys and I decide to head out for some winter fun.
Apollo found his inner-husky that day!I have never seen two happier dogs than Zeus and Apollo in the snow.
It was inevitable that the dogs realized they had an untapped ability in the snow, the power to be living, breathing, snow cone machines!
Don't eat the yellow snow!
Just a little more backyard winter fun...
Check out the snow bunnies! (Of a different kind)
Yes, there is no doubt about it, this place is great!
Despite the chaos strewn through the backyard by the dogs, the view from our back porch is truly remarkable.
